A selection of talks, conference presentations, and workshops I have given on data science, Bayesian methods, and open data analytics.
Slides are available as HTML (interactive) or PDF (printable). Where applicable, code repositories and recordings are linked.
If you are organising a conference, seminar, or in-house workshop and would like me to speak on Bayesian modelling, open data analytics, or uncertainty quantification in decision-making, please get in touch: kristian.vepsalainen@proton.me
2026
Event: useR! 2026 Location: TBA Date: July 2026
A Bayesian forward simulation of aerodynamic drag at the 1980 Olympic men’s 15 km cross-country skiing race. The talk uses the famous one-hundredth-of-a-second margin between Thomas Wassberg and Juha Mieto as a vehicle for a broader point: when inference is impossible but the physics is known, forward simulation with R turns counterfactual questions into distributions.
